What Is Involved With Heavy Equipment Operator Training
Author: Summer PerezThe construction industry employs many professionals to run their large machines for every day operations. When an individual wants to become qualified to operate such machinery they must first undergo heavy equipment operator training. Instruction of this manner can be procured through two different avenues. The first is through traditional on-the-job instruction via an apprenticeship and the second is through a trade school offering this type of instruction.
When working through the apprenticeship program the individual is required to complete a set number of hours of on-the-job instruction and school room curriculum. When pursuing the schooling option the individual will earn their license and certification through an accredited college.
Once certified the individual will begin their career operating multiple types of machinery. These can range from bulldozers to back hoes to loaders. When earth or heavy building materials are required to be moved or transported to a new location these machines spring into action and take care of the job.
A couple other machines that are in use within the oil industry and construction world are pile driver units and pavement or surface machines. Like other machines in the family these machines are very important when creating highways and bridges. An individual wishing to operate these machines also needs to have their license.
The surface machines are used to evenly distribute asphalt for road and driveway projects. In order to verify that the asphalt is being applied correctly an asphalt professional reviews the heat levels and output quantities of the machine. During this process the professional also monitors the placement of the material in an effort to ensure that there are no gaps or valleys in the surface.
Pile driver machines are generally mounted on skids and are used to install piles into the ground. Piles are beams of steel or wood and are driven into the ground to support multiple structures such as bulkheads, retaining walls, and bridge piers. Personnel operating this type of machinery can use valves and foot levers in order to control the machinery. One of the locations a pile driver professionals is found to be working is on an offshore oil rig.
Receiving heavy equipment operator training is required when starting a career of this time. Professionals in these positions move onto becoming supervisors and or instructors in school environments. It is a rewarding career path and provides plenty of excitement.
