Four Tips To Being An Excellent Employee

You got the job and you want to keep it, so you show up to work when you’re scheduled and you do what you’re told. Sometimes that just isn’t enough though. If you simply want to stay in that same position, forever, timeliness and work ethic are great, but if you want to push forward and move up the ladder you’re going to need to do a little more to impress those above you.

It isn’t that difficult to be an exemplary employee, you just have to put your all into your job when you are on the clock. You need to be passionate about what you are doing so those in charge can see that you’re serious about the work that you do.

Don’t Drink Or Do Drugs

First of all, never come to a job high or drunk, no matter where you work. It’s just bad form, and at certain jobs it could be a health risk. If you have an issue with addiction you should seek help to recover from your addiction before it causes you to lose your job, or worse.

You also shouldn’t be doing either of these things on the job. If you work someplace with strict rules on smoking cigarettes, and you’re a smoker, it’s also important to adhere to the rules. If the job means enough to you it may be time to consider quitting.

Perfect Time Management

How your time fits into your work schedule starts with when you get to work. If you’re rushing in and punching the clock at the last minute, you’re not being very efficient. Get in fifteen minutes early so that you have time to take your coat off and get into work mode before it’s time to punch in.

You also want to make sure you are managing your time throughout the day when it comes to projects. You want to make sure you have time to reach your daily goals without coming burnt out or stressed. While you may want to get a lot done in a little time, you also want to make sure you’re doing quality work.

Always Exceed Expectations

Don’t just do the work assigned to you and put as little effort into it as possible. This will never get you anywhere. Instead, put every effort in so that you can prove that you are an asset and an efficient worker.

Don’t wait until the boss asks you to take the next step in a project, take some initiative. Don’t be afraid to do a good job and impress those that can allow you to move forward in your job.

Share Your Ideas

You also shouldn’t be afraid to share your ideas. Bosses like employees that contribute in every way possible, and sharing ideas that could make workflow more efficient or bring more money into the company will always be rewarded.
